She did everything right. She excelled in school. She participated in extracurricular activities. She graduated with high honors, and she spoke at graduation.
To deny her a chance at college because, after a bout of homelessness, she moved to a home within a few feet of the KPS district boundary, a home her family was led to believe was within that boundary, is the height of cruelty.
We can do better.
