Gov. Cuomo: Convene special session to enact legislation that has been bottled up by Republican c...

Now is the time to pass the NYS Dream Act, raise the minimum wage and enact all the other policies that have been stymied or watered down since the IDC, a breakaway group of Democratic state senators, has voted to give the Republicans a majority. They have promised to come back to the fold but talk is cheap and promises are cheaper (as Republican leader Dean Skelos all but said).

Why is this important?

Primary challenges to some of the IDC senators and a threat by the Working Families Party to endorse another candidate for governor have resulted in Gov. Cuomo being more vocal in his opposition to a Republican-controlled State Senate. Since Jeff Klein, the IDC leader, has promised to rejoin the Democrats, Gov. Cuomo should take action now, rather than wait until the new session convenes in January, when the election is over and promises can easily be ignored.
