To: The Florida State House, The Florida State Senate, and Governor Ron DeSantis
Gov. Scott, Reinstate Art and Music Instruction in Florida Public Schools
Cuts in funding for art and music education creates a huge learning gap in children. The public in general becomes ignorant on many levels of creativity and ingenuity within their own lives. For many young people and adults, art and music are a soul source of inspiration. Losing art and music skills and activities create a total loss of art appreciation and a separation from a part of our humanity and love of life. These skills, experiences, and exposure to art and music are essential to our growth as human beings and our minds, emotions, and intellect. Our children suffer and cannot develop fully as individuals without music and art instruction. We do ourselves an extreme disfavor by eliminating them from public as well as private learning. Please write the governor and legislature of this state to let them know how you feel about this issue.
Why is this important?
Many schools in the region of North Florida and the public school systems in rural counties like Jefferson and Taylor do not have any art instruction and have almost completely canceled all music instruction from choir to band practice. During the upcoming legislative session, let's send this petition to the legislature and the governor to let them know how we feel and to insist on funding for art and music instruction in our schools.
