Governor Brown: No more toxic flame retardants in my furniture and body
Get the toxic flame retardant chemicals out of my couch, baby products and body! Adopt a standard modeled on the Consumer Product Safety Commission smolder standard for fabric-- greater fire safety benefit without the use of toxic and/or untested chemicals.
Why is this important?
For decades, flame retardants chemicals have been added to furniture and baby products across North America because of an obscure 1970s California regulation. The regulation not only has been ineffective at stopping fires, but it also has led to the use of toxic and untested chemicals linked to lower IQ, cancer, infertility, and many other health problems. A recent Chicago Tribune investigation exposed how the chemical industry uses deceptive tactics and misrepresents science just to keep selling us their toxic products.
