Governor Herbert is refusing to recognize the marriages of more than 1000 same-sex couples who married after Dec. 20 when federal judge Richard Shelby upheld a challenge to Utah's voter-approved amendment banning same-sex nuptials. The Supreme Court has issued a stay on further marriage ceremonies until the court case is appealed, but the Governor has decided to take it one step further by not recognizing the rights of those who were legally married before the stay went into effect. Please sign the petition and tell Governor Herbert to recognize these marriages.
Why is this important?
Marriage equality should be granted to all loving couples. Denying marriage equality to these couples will have immediate effects how they file their taxes, how they obtain healthcare and the future of their families.
