To: Governor Ron DeSantis
Governor Scott, it is time for Florida to expand Medicaid coverage and create a healthcare exchange.
Governor Scott the voters of Florida have spoken. We supported President Obama and his policies during this past election and now it's time for you to respect that choice by expanding Medicaid coverage and creating a healthcare exchange in this state to make healthcare available and affordable for all Floridians.
Why is this important?
As a small business owner that provides services to people with disabilities who receive Medicaid benefits and as a father and husband who purchases private health insurance for my family, I see firsthand the potential benefits to Floridians if the governor and state legislature enact both the Medicaid expansion and healthcare exchange tenants of the Affordable Care Act.
Expanding Medicaid will allow current recipients to work more hours without the worry of loosing the healthcare coverage that they rely on. It will also cover more Floridians who are working but cannot afford to purchase private insurance.
Creating a statewide exchange could maximize competition and choice for Florida consumers which could result in lower premiums and more affordable coverage for Floridians like myself who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but still find it difficult to afford private health insurance.
