GRANT PROFESSOR JOHN BOYLE TENURE

As students, we are fortunate to have a variety of wonderful colleges and universities available to us as we seek to continue our education. It is well-known that there are many institutions of higher learning in Illinois. Yet, we have chosen Northeastern Illinois University. Some of us are here because we recognize that NEIU is student-centered; some made the choice because we believe the professors are experts in their respective fields; and others of us have chosen NEIU because we know the professors are dedicated.
Many adult students and NEIU alumni are fortunate to have learned under the tutelage of Professor John Boyle. Professor Boyle provides a student-centered learning environment and demonstrates dedication to those he inspires to learn. Professor Boyle offers the students of NEIU a chance to study with an expert in the field of Native American languages; the only expert at NEIU. He provides us the opportunity to study endangered languages and encourages us to play an active role in the revitalization of these languages.
We are unable to understand the reasoning behind the rejection of Professor Boyle’s tenure and want to know how the NEIU Administration and Board can deny their students the opportunity to learn from a professor of such status, who is dedicated to his students and an outstanding mentor. We believe our education would not be as worthwhile without such an exceptional professor. As students of NEIU, Professor Boyle works for us and we want him to continue working for us!
We, therefore, request that the Board of Trustees seriously re-examine the reasons behind Dr. Boyle's denial of tenure. What we have read suggests he has been treated very unfairly and not with the best interest of NEIU students in mind.

Why is this important?

We request that the Board of Trustees seriously re-examine the reasons behind Dr. Boyle's denial of tenure. What we have read suggests he has been treated very unfairly and not with the best interest of NEIU students in mind.
