Gun Control United

Whereas we the people are granted the right to bear arms;
Whereas we the people are given the freedom to fight for liberty, justice and artistic expression;
Whereas we the people consist of different colors and creeds;
Whereas we the people have children and loved ones in common:
We hereby mandate Congress to consider gun control to prevent the massacre of innocent children and adults.
We hereby mandate Congress to enact improved gun control and related health legislation by 6/15/13, to be paid for with taxes on the sale of bullets and weapons.

Background:
Washington Post, 12.15.2012
The National Rifle Association, one of the most powerful interest groups in Washington and in statehouses across the nation, said it would not comment on the shooting “until the facts are thoroughly known.”
But the group had been gearing up to oppose any efforts to tighten the nation’s gun laws. After Mr. Obama’s re-election, the association’s president, David A. Keene, wrote, “We have to be prepared to fight him on each front, rally friendly elected officials, persuade those in the middle and let all of them know that gun owners will not stand idly by as our constitutional rights are stripped from us.”

Why is this important?

To uphold our constitutional right to bear arms, we recognize the need for improved mental health care, and the responsible use and ownership of weapons of mass destruction.
