guns don't kill, people with guns do. banning guns is not the answer.

what happened in connecticut is a tragedy. what happened at virginia tech, at columbine, and elsewhere in the world is also horrific. but despite these tragedies, these incidents are the exception, not the rule. banning guns is not the answer; stricter gun control laws are. enact a three day waiting period. include background checks that have access both to mental health authorities and juvenile records. expand funding to mental health agencies so that people who like some of the shooters have more access to health care. require continuing education to those who have licenses in good standing. protect our 2nd amendment right not by taking it away, but by ensuring a commitment to those who choose to uphold it. i am a peace loving moderate, but i have a gun in my car as i am a woman, and i travel alone frequently. i pray i never have to use it. but if i had to choose between my life and someone who was threatening myself, or my workers, i will chose to protect myself and my workers. banning guns is not the answer; but limiting access to those who can have them is.

Why is this important?

in light of this weeks shooting in connecticut, it's time to make sure guns do not fall in the hands of the irresponsible, and not blame those of us who take having a gun seriously. its time to enforce stricter gun control laws. banning guns for everyone only leaves them in the hands of the bad guys.
