Hands Off Ohio's Sanctuary Cities

When local jurisdictions take a stand against racism and bigotry and affirm that vulnerable populations within their communities should not be scapegoated, they should be applauded, not prosecuted. Trump's hateful rhetoric cannot be allowed to rewrite core American values that we hold as a nation of immigrants. The signers of this petition urge the rejection of any measure to criminalize sanctuary cities and the elected officials who voice support for them.

Why is this important?

In the wake of Trump's Muslim ban, some Ohio municipalities like Cincinnati have taken the step to declare sanctuary city status. Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel and new State Rep Candice Keller have announced plans to introduce legislation not only to outlaw sanctuary cities but to hold their elected officials responsible for crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. This is an assault on local government, free speech, and the inclusiveness of our communities.
