Help Corpsman by creating a program to become an R.N.

We need for Corpsman to have a guaranteed educational path and SPOT to obtain a degree and eligibility for an RN license. An accelerated program just for Corpsman in the College(s). As an RN, BSN, MSN, I can attest to the skills they are equipped with and the education far surpasses anything I have learned in nursing school. They would have jobs (good paying) and can choose to reserve with the Military as a Nurse or in the private sector. We owe it to them (ask any Marine). They have put their lives on the line now it is time to show our gratitude.

Why is this important?

Corpsman are given a comprehensive medical education. It is not worth much in the civilian world so they are only able to get a job as an aide or tech. They are not given the value and monies they should when leaving the service. They are able and do save lives and not just BCLS! Their education is far beyond the scope of a registered nurse. I am an RN with my BSN and MSN. I think there should be a college or two (three) that teaches Corpsman to RN. The professors might be previous Corpsman. At the very least it should be an accelerated program taking into account all they have learned with no need for repeat. Their are accelerated programs now for people with any type of Bachelor's to obtain eligibility to take the RN exam. We should give these talented individuals the opportunity to serve in the medical field. We know their is a shortage in the military for Nurses and this sure would help along with the need for civilian nurses. They should be guaranteed a spot in the program if they are in good military standing.
