Maui’s trail users against sharing the trails with motorized vehicles.
Help Keep eBikes Off Of Maui’s Na Ala Hele Hiking/Mountain Biking/Equestrian Trails
Contact Torrie Nohara (head of Na Ala Hele on Maui) [email protected], Lance Desilva ([email protected]), Scott Fretz ([email protected]) and tell them NO EBIKES ON NONMOTORIZED VEHICLE DESIGNATED TRAILS!
Why is this important?
The opening of these trails to ebikes will open the floodgates to users who will easily ride 2 or 3 times the # of laps ridden by conventional (a.k.a. NONMOTORIZED) bikes, on vehicles weighing 50-60% heavier. Add this to an already overused and under maintained trail system and you get crowded, blown out trails. Here are some articles dealing with the subject:

A class 1E bike is just like a strong rider on a regular bike because it has a motor. It is a bicycle with a motor, hence a motorized bicycle. It is an assist bike yes, but that assistance comes from a motor.
