HELP TO REDUCE THE SUICIDE RATE AMOUNG MILITARY MEMBERS

Suicide is a major public health issue and among the top ten causes of death in the United States. Unfortunately, for more than a decade, the suicide rate has been rising in the general U.S. population and especially among veterans, men and women who risked their lives for the country.

In 2018, 6,435 veterans and 40,075 nonveteran adults died by suicide. But because there are many more nonveterans in the population, the rate of suicide among veterans was 32.0 per 100,000, compared with 17.2 per 100,000 for nonveterans.
Not only are we seeing an increase in our veteran suicide rate, but the number of deaths by suicide among military service members increased alarmingly in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the Defense Department's latest quarterly report.

The military recorded 156 deaths by suicide among all services, including active-duty, National Guard and Reserve troops, from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 last year. That is a 25% increase from the 125 such deaths that occurred in the last quarter of calendar year 2019.

There are many non profits that work to combat this increase, in South Florida an LLC is willing to donate a property (Veterans Card Sound Fish Camp) to non profit organizations to be used as a site for Piscatorial Therapy and an area that can be very conducive for meditation., but due to political roadblocks this cannot be accomplished. We need your help to receive a Bay Bottom Lease for use of this valuable resource. We all know the calming effects of water and the scenic views of the Florida Keys and Everglades. We will continue to coordinate with the Veterans Hospital and Veterans Center in our efforts to reduce this horrible trend. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Why is this important?

There is an IMMEDIATE need to obtain a Bay Bottom Lease for the Veterans Fish Camp Card Sound Road, in the Florida Keys. The below states an important factors to reduce suicides and the Bay Bottom Lease would help with these:

According to the World Health Organization, having a safe, supportive environment plays a large role in suicide prevention. When people feel secure in their surroundings, they experience less anxiety and depression, improve their physical health, have fewer instances of substance abuse and experience an overall improved quality of life and life expectancy.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “most often, suicidal thoughts are the result of feeling like you can’t cope when you’re faced with what seems to be an overwhelming life situation.”

Immediate Action is needed
