Hip Hop Movement Day
City Council Member Annabel Palma 1041 Castle Hill Avenue Bronx, New York 10472
Dear Councilmember Palma
I am respectfully asking if on the 2nd Saturday in Aug can be proclaimed as Hip Hop Movement Day in New York City. Hip Hop Movement came about in the 1990’s with the recordings of groups like Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Snap with their Conscious Awareness rap music. In 1992 Ronald Savage proclaimed the 6 elements of Hip Hop Music - Consciousness, civil rights, activism, justice, political, community awareness which today stands for \ Public advocacy to promote awareness of Consciousness, civil rights, activism, justice, political, community awareness in music; Promoting public awareness of the need for Consciousness, civil rights, activism, justice, political, community awareness in music; Promoting public awareness of Consciousness, civil rights, activism, justice, political, community awareness in music.
With this proclaim day this is a reminder to the music industry, the radio stations, and the community at large that hip hop music is more than just gangster Rap, and promoting bad elements such as glorifying selling drugs guns and calling women b****s. The hip hop movement focus is Promoting public awareness of the need for Consciousness, civil rights, activism, justice, political, community awareness in music and this will be the day to recognize these artists who have sent positive messages in their music.
Respectfully Yours

Why is this important?
The hip hop movement focus is Promoting public awareness of the need for Consciousness, civil rights, activism, justice, political, community awareness in music and this will be the day to recognize these artists who have sent positive messages in their music. I am bringing awareness that we must stop bad elements in Rap Music as a message to the youth and send positive, and uplifting messages in music.
