Hire More Postal Clerks And Letter Carriers
The US Postal Service continues to claim hard times and financial problems that just don't exist. The only crisis the postal service has is a lack of employees to work the nations mail. In the last two years the USPS has closed about 150 mail processing plants with plans to close another 50 starting in February 2014. This results in mail traveling greater distances to the delivery point taking more time. They relaxed their delivery standards to accomplish this. Meaning our mail is slower than ever now. It is not uncommon for mail to be delivered after dark in many areas. They claim a financial crisis billions of dollars in loses that just don't exist. The majority of these loses can be attributed to a 2006 law requiring the postal service to do something no other business or government agency is required to do. They are required to prefund retiree healthcare benefits 75 years in advance at $5.5 billion dollars a year in a ten year window. The post office has reduced their labor for by 200,000 jobs. So the USPS is imploding when it does not have to. They are putting away money for people who have not been born and they do not intend to hire. The answer is to hire more postal employees to keep our postal service strong. To return the delivery standards to what they have been in the past and return the mail to be processed in the cities they were taken from.
Why is this important?
The lack of Congress to take action on the US Postal Service is destroying an agency mandated in the US Constitution and one they are responsible for.
