California has become a debtors prison state to fund a burgeoning shadow economy.This must end.
This petition asks for three things
1, no more corporate and dishonest contracting of public defenders.Any representation provided by such groups triggers an automatic appeal.This would include plea deals when it can be shown there was indifference .unwillingness.or refusal to research or present a case,or negotiate in good faith on behalf of clients.
2.No one involved in the system or decision making process of defendants such as legislators DA's. prison guards,or law enforcement,can have investments in any corporations or affiliates that supply prisons,or benefit from public or private funds,that incentivise incarceration.
3.When a crime does NOT include a specific victim(i.e.drugs etc.)
the state MAY NOT use the language the "people of the state of California"in legal briefs.They must say "the State of California"
Why is this important?
The burgeoning prison system targets minorities and the poor.The California justice system has criminalized many aspects of poverty and warehouses people for profit based on their ability to find a crime as an excuse to warehouse them.I'm done with it.
