Host a Town Hall During Recess: Rep. Van Orden
As your constituents, we are signing the petition to express our disappointment and frustration at the lack of in-person public forums and your failure and use of shaming at your tele video event this week. Your excuses for not having an in person event blame everyone and set up a crazy conspiracy theory. You did not have in person for the last 2 years that was an open to all your constituents. We are directly impacted by the chaos and dysfunction caused by President Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk’s brutal firing of American workers and the proposed slashing of public services and programs like Social Security and Medicaid. We have serious concerns about the future of our public schools, postal service, and support for veterans. As a senior you have done nothing to alivate the fear brought on by the current administration. Many of us live day to day with SSI paying for rent and food. WE paid into it but our children, nieces and nephews will not have access under your plan.
You did not address the rising cost of groceries, affordable housing, and health care—are getting worse, not better.
We urge you to schedule in-person town halls so that you can hear directly from the people you were elected to represent, and be accountable for the decisions you are enabling or supporting.
There is still time for you to do right by your constituents and meet with us in good faith to hear our concerns.
Sincerely,
Wisconsin US Congressional 3 residents
Why is this important?
Recess is a time for members of Congress to return to their home states. They should be using this week to meet with their constituents, give space for their concerns, and take that back to D.C.
Instead, House Republican leaders are now reportedly telling their offices to avoid holding public events when they are home for March recess. This is the opposite of the directions Democrats are receiving—with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries encouraging all members to connect directly with constituents to talk about the Republican-backed attacks on key services like Social Security and Medicaid embodied by Elon Musk's actions and the Republican budget.

Van Orden was elected to represent us—they should not be hiding from their constituents. Period.
