Teacher Fired Because Abusive Ex-Husband Posed Threat to Students

As supporters of women who are victims of violence, we are outraged that rather than offering support to domestic violence victim Carie Charlesworth and her four children, the Diocese instead fired her because of her husband's criminal acts.

We believe that the Diocese should be assisting Ms. Charlesworth and supporting her and her children by offering her employment in another department or school. It is YOUR responsibility to be certain that your schools are safe. This teacher should not have been re-victimized, a common occurrence in cases of domestic violence.

We urge the Diocese of San Diego to rethink their actions and ask that you become a part of the solution rather than create a larger problem for this victim and all victims of crime.

Why is this important?

A teacher from the Diocese of San Diego, who is a victim of domestic violence, was fired rather than being helped because of her estranged husband's criminal acts. This is WRONG!
