The Los Angeles Times and the Denver Post joined the growing list of media outlets—including the The Associated Press—changing their policies to stop using the word "illegal" to describe human beings.1,2
It's a huge step, because newspapers and TV stations that drop the "i-word" bring us one step closer to a conversation that treats immigrants with the respect and dignity they deserve—and to creating the space to pass real immigration reform.
But there are lots of state and local media outlets that continue to use the term "illegal" when describing immigrants, even after the AP and others changed their policies. Let's change this!
