I support licensure of NC Dietitians/Nutritionists
As a healthcare professional, I value the role of Licensed Dietitians/Nutritionists (LDNs) and count on their knowledge base in the care of my patients. I consider them an integral part of a healthcare team and appreciate the role that they provide. Licensing laws are statutes that explicitly define scopes of practice for professions. These laws protect the public by ensuring that only persons qualified in a particular field are allowed to practice in that field. I support the licensing of nutritionists and dietitians in the state of North Carolina.
Why is this important?
NC licensed dietitians/nutritionists need your support! Two bills, S10 and H676, were filed in the NC general assembly this year that called for eliminating licensure of dietitians/nutritionists in North Carolina. Grassroots efforts by NC licensed dietitians/nutritionists and other members of the NC community were successful in getting this language removed from S10. H676 has not been voted on and the primary sponsors of H676 have communicated that it is their intention to form a study committee to review licensure. NC legislators need to hear that you value the services licensed dietitians/nutritionists provide the patients you treat and that without licensure it would be difficult to determine who is qualified to provide these services.
