Idaho legislators: Leave local control in local hands

Several proposals being considered by Idaho lawmakers would take local control away from cities and counties on important issues like raising the minimum wage and local option taxation. Preemption laws pushed by industry associations and right-wing lawmakers force local cities to comply with state mandates even if voters and local elected officials want to create their own standards.

Why is this important?

I live in Boise, which has been kept from enacting several ordinances favored by residences but opposed by the Idaho legislature. If you would like your city or other local jurisdiction to have the ability to enact its own community guidelines, instead of having that ability pre-empted by state laws pushed by groups like the American Legislative Exchange Committee (ALEC), please sign this petition that will then be forwarded to your own state legislators.
