To: The Idaho State House, The Idaho State Senate, and Governor Brad Little
Idaho Legislature: PAY OUR TEACHERS!
We, the people of the state of Idaho, ask that our legislature and our governor get their priorities in order. Stop the "good old boy politics"! Restore the salaries that you took away from our teachers before giving tax breaks to the wealthy. It is much more important to give it our teachers an appropriate salary than to finance tax breaks for the wealthy. Restore this funding so that teachers can be returned to the classroom and class sizes can be lowered for more quality education. The cuts made to education by our superintendent of public instruction have harmed, not helped, the education system and Idaho. Make education a priority, not stuffing the pockets of those who are already wealthy. Make the majority of Idaho citizens your priority. Restore teachers' salaries NOW!
Why is this important?
The Idaho Legislature is arguing whether wealthy Idahoans should get a $35 million tax break or if Idaho teachers should receive the pay that was cut last year for a savings of $35 million. This tax break only helps the wealthiest of Idahoans. Even a family of four making $100,000 per year would only see a tax savings of $71.00! It's more important that our children receive a quality education than for the rich to get another tax break.
