Please do not call people "illegals." Call them" immigrants." If you must discuss their legal status, say "people who have entered this country without proper documentation." If you insist, however, on calling immigrants "illegals," then you should also call the corporations that bring them in or hire them "illegals." (Is anyone documenting "corporate illegals", such as Tysons or Perdue?) Besides, in a country built on the hopes and dreams of people who have come here from around the world, we should relate to immigrants and treat them with the compassion and respect that is their due. Let us harness their hopes and dreams, because those of us who are descended from immigrants and have been here awhile, well, let's face it, our hopes and dreams are somewhat tattered. Let us be inspired by those of us who are new arrivals.
Why is this important?
A person is a person by any other name. But some names are disrespectful and inappropriate.
