I'm For the River

I am writing to tell you that I support the San Joaquin River Restoration Project. Legislation authorizing Federal agencies to fund and implement the Project was passed by Congress in 2009, but will continue to need your support to fully realize the project’s vision of a great river through the Valley.

I am for the river, and that is why I support the restoration project. For thousands of years, so many of the good things in this valley have come from the San Joaquin River – our history, our sense of community, our connection to nature, our economy. In many ways, the San Joaquin River is the soul of our Valley.

A healthy river is vital for my community. It provides water for agriculture and supports thousands of jobs. It provides us with boundless opportunities for recreation – such as swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, bird watching and kayaking. It creates important habitat for wildlife – birds, fish and mammals. The River feeds the groundwater that supplies our cities’ drinking water and offers flood protection.

The San Joaquin River Restoration Project is a balanced approach to preserving all of these important things. It will provide water for our farms, ensure a healthy river for our communities to enjoy, and create a place for nature and wildlife to thrive.

I support the San Joaquin River Restoration Project and I ask that you do the same.

Why is this important?

Yosemite Area Audubon is joining with California Audubon and many other friends and supporters of the San Joaquin River.

The San Joaquin River belongs to everyone in the Valley. We're speaking up for it, and we'd like you to join us.
