If we are going to continue locking up an insane amount of people for using drugs and other 'non-violent' offenses- then let's at least demand that prisons are overseen by entities responsible to the electorate, not to investors.
Why is this important?
The Prison Industrial Complex needs to stop. The first step is to put a moratorium on the expansion of private prisons. What business do corporations really have in rehabilitation anyway?
