We demand an investigation into the following failures in the handling of the state of emergency caused by the chemical spill which occurred Jan. 9 2014 in Charleston, WV.
1. Why the WVDEP did not enforce the regulations which require that emergency prevention and preparedness plans be submitted and approved.
2. Why the water ban was so slow to be implemented.
3. Why the public alert sirens were not sounded.
Why is this important?
We all pay taxes. In exchange for this, the government creates agencies which are designed to serve us and keep us safe. We have seen massive failures by these agencies, and demand that these failures are accounted for, and that responsible parties are replaced with competent individuals who will perform their duties in a fashion that will keep our community safe.
