The state of Georgia should not be in the business of promoting Confederate events/activities, holidays, historic sites, and naming roads after racist Confederate leaders who wanted to preserve and expand the institution of slavery. Furthermore, the use of Georgians' tax dollars to fund said activities, particularly the taxes of 3 million Black residents, is immoral and racist.
Why is this important?
This petition seeks to draw attention to the fact that Georgia lawmakers continue to promote Confederacy related events and activities with residents' tax dollars. Given the Confederacy sought to preserve/expand slavery, and was built on the notion that White people were superior to all races, it is time to end this racist practice.
