Ke Kulana Kupuna: The Position of Our Elders on Mauna a Wakea
We, the Kupuna and Makua of ka pae 'aina o Hawai'i, uphold the statement of support by Ka Piko o ka Lei Lehua o Keawe, who are among the elders and culural stewards of Hawai'i Island, as quoted below:
"We, the Kupuna and Makua of Ka Piko o ka Lei Lehua o Keawe, stand in support of our fellow kanaka in the spirit of Aloha 'Aina, Lokahi, Malama 'Aina and Laulima to protect and preserve our precious Mauna a Wakea, the place of our Wao Akua and our Kumu Wai. Ka Piko represents every moku on Hawai'i Island. We come with our ancestors behind us and our children before us. We strive for pono within our past, present and future: Piko Maluna, Piko Mawaena, Piko Malalo. We stand strong together forever in unity."

Why is this important?
This petition is in support of the position of Ka Piko o ka Lei Lehua o Keawe, the elders and cultural stewards of Hawai 'i Island, on their stance against further development atop Mauna a Wakea, in particular, the current plans to build a 30M telescope on the sacred Wao Akua.
