Protect Our Democracy: Require Integrity in America’s Highest Offices
(Note: this petition is an act of citizen political participation covered by the freedom of speech.)
Americans deserve leaders who obey the law. Our Constitution sets age and citizenship requirements—but nothing prevents a convicted felon from becoming President, Vice President, a member of Congress, or even a Supreme Court Justice. Let’s change that.

This amendment would ensure that anyone convicted of a felony—unless that conviction is reversed or pardoned—cannot hold these powerful positions of public trust.
We, the people, request that the US Congress make the following proposal and the State Legislatures call for a United States Constitutional Convention to vote/ratify and amend the United States Constitution as follows:
“No person convicted of a felony under federal or state law shall be eligible to serve as a member of the United States Congress, President of the United States or their political appointee, Vice President of the United States, or Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, unless such conviction has been reversed or pardoned.”
This is not about politics—it’s about principles. Let’s make integrity a constitutional requirement.

Why is this important?
Americans deserve leaders who uphold the law, not those who have broken it..
Integrity and trust in government should be non-negotiable, no matter which party is in power.
Why this matters
- Protect public trust. Our highest officials should make the law, not break it.
- Defend national security. Those convicted of serious crimes shouldn’t access classified information or command our armed forces.
- Uphold ethical leadership. America’s leaders must set an example for our children and the world.
- Ensure fairness and redemption. This proposal allows anyone whose conviction is overturned or pardoned to serve — balancing accountability with justice.
What we are asking
We urge Congress to advance this amendment — or for 34 state legislatures to call for a Constitutional Convention — so that “public trust” becomes more than a slogan. It becomes the law.
