Keep Guns off Kenyon College Campus

We, the students, faculty, alumni and families of Kenyon College, want our campus to remain gun free. All students have the right to feel safe, not only in the classroom, but in their community as well. College students are under a tremendous amount of stress, are often impulsive, and will inevitably have access to alcohol on campus. The combination of these factors creates a dangerous and disastrous situation when guns are added to the mix.

If HB 48, the Guns Everywhere Bill, were to become law, anyone with a permit to carry concealed weapons that is recognized by the State of Ohio – students, faculty, staff, and visitors – would be allowed to carry loaded, concealed handguns anywhere on Ohio college campuses, including classrooms, student centers and sports arenas, and to keep firearms in student dormitories and fraternity houses, if the institution so chooses. We call on President Decatur to make an official statement that Kenyon is, and will remain, a gun-free zone if this reckless bill becomes law.

The lives of Ohio college students are in danger, and we will not stand idly by while our right to pursue our education in safety is obstructed. Will you?

Why is this important?

We want Kenyon to clearly remain gun-free. We live in an area where many private citizens own guns, and we would like there to be no ambiguity after the passage of this law as to whether those guns are allowed on campus.
