Under current NYS law, juror information is available to ANYONE willing to pay for it. This means that convicted felons CAN gain access to the names of the people that convicted them. Juror information SHOULD NOT be available to the public, let alone to the individual you, as a juror, helped convict.
Why is this important?
In 2008, I served on a jury that convicted a man of second degree murder. Two weeks ago, I received a long letter from the convicted felon. He obtained my name and subsequently, "through a personal investigator friend", my home address.
What was meant to be an important commitment to civic duty, has turned into a deeply stressful situation and fear for my family's safety.
This convicted murderer should have never been able to obtain my name.
