Keep Rhode Island beaches safe from sewage

I am writing to urge you to protect our beaches from sewage and runoff pollution now. When the Clean Water Act was passed more than 40 years ago, it was meant to keep all our waters safe enough for swimming, yet Rhode Island beach closures are on the rise this year.

When sewage and other runoff gets into Narragansett Bay, beaches close and kids get sick. Please protect Rhode Island's beaches, Narragansett Bay, and our health by proposing a strong rule to curb runoff pollution immediately.

Why is this important?

After a decade of declining summer beach closures in Rhode Island, they are back on the rise in 2013, with over 100 closures around the state already this summer.

EPA was supposed to propose a new rule to curb this pollution in June, but we’re still waiting.

Let’s urge EPA to keep our beaches safe from sewage.
