Lawmakers Must Read and Live By The Laws They Vote On
Proposed Amendment 29:
“No member of Congress shall vote on a law for which they have not read each and every word. If less than ½ of the members have read a bill which is currently considered law then it shall be void at the start of the next session.”
“No member of Congress shall vote on a law for which they have not read each and every word. If less than ½ of the members have read a bill which is currently considered law then it shall be void at the start of the next session.”
Why is this important?
How can a citizen be expected to live under the burden of laws that are so lengthy that they cannot be read? How can a legislator represent us properly he or she cannot even bother to read a law of the land and any new bills that are being considered?
Many bills now are printed just prior to a vote and have hundreds of pages appended to ram special interest pork items to tag along with an idea that has merit. The opportunity exists for the text to change as it is added to the federal register.
Lawmakers who participate in this activity are not properly representing the interest of the citizens. I might go so far to suggest that this activity of voting on unread bills is an act of treason.
