Congress, as our representatives, should lead by example. This petition proposes to suspend all congressional compensation (pay, healthcare, pensions, etc) before any cuts to such programs as Social Security, Medicare, Etc. If we are in such dire financial straits then congress should lead by example before imposing cuts on the general populace and give up any and all compensation until such time as the economy improves.
Why is this important?
Many in the House of Representatives are proposing draconian austerity measures that will harm our country's long term health.
