Let's Do The Right Thing

Peace,

My name is Demale Rogers. I am currently a prisoner in the Marion Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio. I am serving a sentence of 15-to-life for murder. In 2018 I went to the parole board for the first time. That date was 4-11-2018. On 4-19-2018 I received an additional 96 months of incarceration (8 years).

However, 8 months after my hearing, a woman named Shirley Smith who was on my panel published several articles about the unethical practices of the parole board on which she served. She also stepped down from her position and outlines suggestions to rectify the flaws that were most obvious to her.

I was given 96 months (8 years), due to my conduct history being bad and that the community strongly objected to my release. However, upon review of my conduct report history, my acting Sargeant said that I did not have a bad conduct history upon looking up my 12 conduct reports, which most were minor offenses.

The parole board said that was one of the determining factors in their decision of 96 months (8 years). However, my most serious offense happened in 2007, and the party that was said to have objected to my release happened to be the prosecuting attorney.

Since my incarceration, I have achieved CDL Training, Barista
Diploma from Coffee Crafters Academy, Food Management, OSHA Certification In Construction Safety, and I am a Toastmaster with a Complaint Communicator Award.

As Ms. Smith stated, there is also a racial element to the process of the then parole board for which the members I went in front of were fired. That racial element appeared with a close friend of mine who is a white male. We were in the same prison for most of our 15 years; we have nearly the same conduct history and went to the parole board days apart. He (Hayes 470-778) received parole his first time up; I received 96 months.

Thus, I am requesting a petition to show that my community speaks by the signing of my release or reconsideration for potential release. I am simply asking for a fair objective review of my parole request.

Thank you- Demale

Why is this important?

I am doing this so my State of Ohio does the right thing!
