Let's get party politics out of the re-election process
My suggestion is that when a sitting President is eligible for re-election, the people get to decide whether or not that President's performance warrants a second term, no party representation, no campaigning, no challenger. The President's performance speaks for itself and the choice to bestow a second term is made by the people toward their President, not a parties candidate. If the President does not win the approval of the people, then that President does not get to run for re-election against other candidates. At that point, other candidates are identified and there is a campaign and election process to choose who will lead us for a term. This process will eliminate the situation where a sitting President has any benefit over a challenger. If the President did a good job, then the people should want that individual to have a second term. If not- get that one out and let's choose another.
Why is this important?
I want to initiate a radical change to the presidential election process to try and reduce the effect of party politics.
It was so obvious to me this past campaign season that party politics does not work in the best interest of our nation and its people. I am so tired of the way the main stream parties manage campaigns and I feel we need to change the process so the people have more power in the decisions regarding our leadership.
