In this 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, it is time to officially acknowledge the contribution of Abraham Lincoln to preserving the Union and outlawing slavery. This is only done in a few states and not at all on the federal level. If you agree that this is just wrong, please contact your state legislators (except CT, MO, IL, NY, and NJ where there is a state holiday for Lincoln) as well as federal representatives.
Why is this important?
As a writer for a local paper, I learned that there is no federal recognition for Abraham Lincoln. An effort to include him in Presidents' Day failed at the federal level and he is only acknowledged by a handful of states. This is a travesty. In this 150th Anniversary year of Gettysburg, I think it's time to hold him in the esteem he deserves and officially include him in Presidents' Day.
