Life Skills
The education system has let us down. We know what the first 10 elements on the periodic table are. We know when Columbus sailed the ocean blue. We know how mountains are formed. Yet I don’t know how to fill out a tax form... or how to invest in the stock market.... or how to read a contract given by a landlord... or how to set up a Roth IRA. I beg to ask the question: why did school, an institution to educate children, not teach us how to do these simple tasks? Why did I have to go and learn these things on my own time?
Why is this important?
These skills are BASIC life skills that the education system needs to teach us. The Irvine unified school district has done great things in many subjects, but we demand more.
