The President needs the authority to veto specific line items in legislation to eliminate pork barrel spending and unnecessary riders to legislation.
Why is this important?
As we once again approach a fiscal cliff and our national debt is higher than ever before we need to control government spending. Although it is not the end all be all solution it is a small step in the right direction to allow the President to veto line items in budget bills to stop the practice of adding pet projects to important legislation knowing full well their pork barrel project will get funding due to the importance of the larger issue. Additionally the President needs the authority to eliminate unnecessary riders to legislation for the same reason.
