To: Members on United Airlines and Continental airlines negotiation commitees.
Longevity credit for United and Continental furloughees
To be delivered to: Members of the UAL MEC and members of the negotiation comittee, and CAL MEC and members of their negotiotiation comitee.
The once and twice furloughed pilots of United and Continental airlines have endured what we hope is the last disruption to our careers. We have endured furloughs following 9-11, age 65 legislation, and contract agreements that have kept us on the sidelines too long and too many times.
After the first furlough, many on the United side elected to return to United Airlines. Our commitment to United was rewarded with a second round of furloughs. Several of us without military ties were forced into expat employment with foreign carriers or third tier civilian flying jobs that just didn't pay the bills. Many changed careers. Some lost everything....houses, cars, families. We suffered.
We will never forget the graciousness of our ALPA brothers and sisters who voted to fund our furlough fund, providing furloughed families with health insurance during these times. This goodwill will never be forgotten.
We are asking you to show the same commitment to us as we have shown to our airline. Delta and others have set the standard by giving their furloughees longevity for pay purposes. We hope our ALPA leadership supports this as well.
The signers of this petition represents a large voting block that will not only vote NO on a contract that does not include this provision, but a block of voters who will also extend the same consideration to future pilots who have given and sacrificed as much for our company and pilot group as we have.
2172, 1492, 570, 539, We can all identify with these numbers in our company’s history....the bottom line is that we are all UNITED!

Why is this important?
We believe the sacrifices of our pilots deserve Longevitiy credit for our time on furlough as other carriers have set this standard. Active UA and CAL pilots please comment your employee number so you can be considered part of a voting block. Furloughed pilots please include your employee number. Other carriers, retirees, or industry employees signatures and comments are welcome.
