As a teenager, it's hard to connect to national politics when all that seems to come out of Washington D.C. is bad news.
At the local level, it's an entirely different story. Teens turn to local government for a high quality of education, insurance of safety, job opportunities, and much more.
At age 16, a teenager is old enough to work to support his/her own family and afford his/her own future. At age 16, one gains driving privileges. At age 16, one can be tried for certain crimes and pay certain taxes. At age 16, one should be allowed to vote in local elections.
It's time to take a step towards youth enfranchisement and allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote in Takoma Park, Maryland in local elections.
