To: President Donald Trump, The United States House of Representatives, and The United States Senate

Make Election Day a National Holiday

1) Whereas free and open elections are the backbone of our democracy

2) Whereas voter turnout for all elections in the United States is very low and needs to be improved

Therefore it be resolved that congress declare the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November to be a National Holiday

Why is this important?

As a representative republic we have a very low turn out of registered voters. Even in hotly contested presidential elections, it is only about 60%. By making election day a national holiday it will increase the situational awareness of the importance of elections and make access to the polls easier for many Americans.
