It's time for NC teachers and state employees to declare the amount to be withheld for flexible health funding for the next benefit year. Under curren tax rules, this is a gamble, as it is for all taxpayers. If too little is set aside, there may not be enough to cover medical expenses. If too much is withheld, the balance is forfeited. It makes no sense for health care to be a gamble. Congress needs to make pre-tax flexible funding for health freely adjustable so that all of every participant's health expenses are tax deductible, and any overage is applied to the folowing tax year.
Why is this important?
Funding a pre-tax health flex-fund is a gamble. If too little is set aside, there may not be funds to pay for health care. If too much is set aside, it is forfeited. Health care should not be a gamble. The solution is to make health care flex-funding freely adjustable.
