To: The Wisconsin State House, The Wisconsin State Senate, and Governor Tony Evers
Make Wisconsin a Sanctuary State
When Joshua Glover, a fugitive slave, took refuge in Wisconsin, he was welcome. Two years later in 1854 when he was jailed by federal marshals in Milwaukee, 5,000 of the city's residents gathered to free him.
Milwaukee and Wisconsin have long been a refuge for many, and we should continue to welcome all who seek sanctuary from unlawful persecution.
To that end we request the State Legislature declare Wisconsin a Sanctuary State. A state where no person will be persecuted or profiled based on religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, or immigration status. A state where the law is applied equally to all, where all are innocent until proven guilty. A state that exerts its rights to protect its residents from federal overreach as outlined in the articles of Confederation and in regards to the Supremacy Law:
Every state shall abide by the determination of the United States in Congress Assembled, on all questions which by this confederation are submitted to them.
As Executive Orders are directives to federal agencies, not states, and if not approved by Congress, states have the right to disregard them per Constitutional Law:
The U.S. Supreme Court has held that all executive orders from the President of the United States must be supported by the Constitution, whether from a clause granting specific power, or by Congress delegating such to the executive branch.
Therefore, the Great State of Wisconsin should remain true to its roots of acceptance of all, and proclaim itself a Sanctuary State.

Why is this important?
I am tired of hyped-up rhetoric and people who claim smaller government is better, yet still back large, overreaching actions by a president that does not understand actual law.
