Maryland teachers want healthier school food!
As a public school teacher in Maryland, I support the legislation proposed by Healthy School Food Maryland that would bring better nutrition to our public school children so that I can teach calm, attentive children. I ask that the Maryland State Education Association support this legislation as well.
-Reduce sugar loads in school meals and snacks
-Remove chemicals that cause hyperactivity and cancer
-Require standing wellness committees
-Require transparency about a la carte snacks
-Stop selling sodas and candy in student-accessible vending machines at all hours and their marketing on school property
-Supply cups to kids to drink water in the cafeteria
-Expand the farm-to-school program

Why is this important?
We believe that the food served by our public schools is a significant financial and social investment intended to help our students attain better health, enhance their learning, support food security, and foster a lifetime of good eating habits. We support Healthy School Food Maryland’s efforts to bring about positive changes to the school food environment in Maryland.
