Massachusetts Legislature: Lead the nation in open government
Ensure that Massachusetts leads the nation in having accessible, searchable, and usable information about our government online. Our state recently received a failing grade for legislative transparency on the web, and our public records and open meetings laws are woefully out-of-date. We demand more openness in the way that state government conducts business. Please enact laws and rules this session that make Massachusetts more open and accountable to its citizens.
Why is this important?
Our state recently received a failing grade for legislative transparency on the web. In addition, our public records law is broken. Journalists, concerned citizens, and others with a need – and right – to know how our government is working often can’t get the information they need. That’s just unacceptable, especially in a state like ours.
This petition calls on the Legislature to make much needed changes so that Massachusetts leads rather than lags behind the nation in having accessible, searchable, and usable information about our government online.
