Mayor Jordan: Independent Accountability for Law Enforcement Needed
We respectfully request that Mayor Lioneld Jordan appoint a qualified person(s) independent of and apart from area law enforcement to hear the complaint of Kendal and Marty Powers re: Fayetteville Police Department case 2010-00042866, and review the investigation to determine the validity of their complaints. A review by law enforcement has been requested and agreed to on multiple occasions, but never performed.
Why is this important?
We were the victims of an extortion demand and death threat, and we do not feel that we were treated fairly during the investigation, the investigation was not handled professionally, nor was the threat taken seriously and our safety the first priority. There currently does not exist an independent citizen committee to review cases such as ours, and we think this is the first step to bring attention to the need for such a committee.
