Mayor Rahm Emanuel:Recognize the accomplishments of Mayor Jane Byrne

Mayor Jane Byrne was the first woman to be elected Mayor of the city of Chicago and her many contributions to Chicago should be recognized, publicly and visibly. Memorialize Mayor Byrne in naming a prominent landmark in her honor.

Why is this important?

Jane Byrne is 81 years old and in frail health. Her accomplishments during her tenure (1979-1983) as Chicago's first elected woman are still benefitting citizens of this city. Her history and her contributions should be acknowledged in an equally enduring way while she is able to appreciate that she will be remembered when she is no longer with us.
