Louisiana: Get Set to Expand Medicaid!

Last week, the Louisiana House voted unanimously to pass a bill that puts in place a financing mechanism to expand Medicaid if Louisiana's next governor decides to finally accept federal funds to provide health care to 289,000 people across the state. All four major gubernatorial candidates say they'll consider it.

The State Senate should follow suit and pass the bill, putting us one step closer to making Medicaid expansion a reality for hundreds of thousands of hardworking people across the state.

We are all affected when people in our society are poor and sick. We profess to be a "Christian society," so how can we let people suffer without trying to help? It is a disgrace that in every other Western nation, people have good quality health care, while in this country, there are still people who don't. Are we so poor we cannot take care of the needy in our state? Louisiana ranks at the bottom of so many rankings such as education and health and we should not pass up this opportunity to change that.

Why is this important?

I don't want to see people in this state go without a basic necessity like health care.
