Medicare Savings

Lets try to turn off the sink before mopping up the floor on the healthcare cost issue. The goal of this petition is show support that an increase in taxes on sugar (including high fructose corn syrup), tobacco and alcohol to mitigate Medicare and Medicaid skyrocketing costs will address this problem at the root. The chronic illnesses that costs taxpayers the most are treated and prevented by making healthy lifestyle choices and this is just a nudge for the benefit of all of us. http://healthcarecostmonitor.thehastingscenter.org/kimberlyswartz/projected-costs-of-chronic-diseases/

Why is this important?

20% of GDP s dedicated to healthcare spending and 77 million baby boomers are just beginning to retire. Many of these folks savings will be wiped out with one emergency room visit. Which means this 2 trillion dolar and growing government expense is not going away anytime soon.
